The Burton family, a well-known pioneering cattle family from Yandina Queensland, first commenced their cattle journey with a registered Jersey Stud in the late 1800’s.

This Jersey Stud continued within the family throughout three generations. In the early 1970’s, Allen’s parents Ian & Rowena Burton, converted their dairy herd to a beef cattle commercial herd with Herefords. 

Growing up, Allen played an important role within the family's commercial business. Like many other cattlemen in that region he found that the Hereford breed was prone to eye cancers and cattle tick problems which reduced their overall productivity. Allen was impressed by the characteristics of the Droughtmaster Breed; their ease of calving, longevity, mothering ability and the breeds adaptability allowing any herd to perform in diverse environments.

Allen incorporated the Droughtmaster breed into his commercial Hereford herd in 1996. Continuing with his great Grandfathers stud prefix ‘Yimin’, the Yimin Cattle Trust officially began in 2008, located in Belli Park, Queensland.

After the successful introduction of the Droughtmaster breed into our commercial herd, the decision was made to commence a registered Droughtmaster Stud; Yimin Droughtmasters in 2015. Over the last 10 years, we have worked hard to increase our genetic pool, which in turn has improved the quality of our cattle, increasing our productivity and demand.

In late 2019, with an increase in herd numbers, the decision was made to purchase a larger property at Biarra, Queensland which incorporated the ability to increase herd numbers and produce our own fodder. With Allen working the cattle while Michelle works as a Registered Nurse at a local rural hospital, it was only a matter of time before our five daughters began to show interest in the Agricultural Industry. And this interest continues to play a vital role in the success of our family Stud.
